Axles

Heavy-duty truck axles are high-capacity shafts built to support up to 60 tons of gross vehicle weight (GVW). They include driven and non-driven front axles, as well as tandem rear drive axles, and are engineered using forged steel and ductile iron to transmit massive torque while resisting extreme stress.

Core Types of Heavy-Duty Axles

  • Steer Axles: Located at the front, these carry the bulk of the engine's weight and are designed for high maneuverability.
  • Single Drive Axles: Utilizes hypoid gears to transmit torque directly to one set of wheels, ideal for standard commercial hauling
  • Tandem Drive Axles: Features two consecutive drive axles connected by a power divider, widely used in heavy-duty Class 8 semi-trucks for maximum traction and weight distribution.
  • Hub-Reduction Axles: Integrates a secondary gear reduction directly into the wheel hub. This setup takes stress off the main axle shafts and differential, making it highly effective for heavy off-road and construction environments.
